Congratulations to Ms Moreton, our Information, Advice and Guidance Co-ordinator, for securing an outstanding report from the Investors in Careers assessor. This is a huge accolade for the school, representative of our commitment to preparing our students for life after school.
Thank you to all students and staff for their involvement in preparing for the assessment.
Fond Farewells
Fond farewells to five colleagues this Easter. We said goodbye over lunch in the staffroom today; the school presented gifts and sent every best wish for future careers.
Miss Fennell was able to sing her farewell in the whole school assembly on Wednesday. An emotional and well-chosen swan song perfectly executed with the help of Mr Adams.
DHSB 11+ Familiarisation
The changes to the national Admission Code and subsequent change to the testing schedule has led us to believe that parents have every opportunity to decide their son’s preference for secondary school following the 11+ in September.
Having consulted with parents, we feel the familiarisation aspect of attending DHSB, being registered, sitting in an exam hall and concentrating on Maths and English for a sustained period is what parents and boys really value. We no longer wish to charge for this experience as we want to ensure that every family, regardless of means, has the same opportunity to attend the session.
We will therefore provide a familiarisation session on Saturday 14 June 2014 which will be free of charge. The registration for this session will open in our reception on 22 April 2014.
During the session, candidates will sit an English comprehension and composition paper, and a Maths paper set by the school.
The papers will be taken home by the boys at the end of the session, and mark schemes will be available to parents in order for the papers to be used diagnostically.
Full details and a brief rationale for this change can be read here.
DHSB PTFA App
Yasin Soliman has developed a DHSB PTFA app, free to download, which provides access to the PTFA’s upcoming events calendar, donation and grant information, social media feeds and more through a streamlined interface – anywhere, anytime.
The app has been developed to support push notifications; a feature that delivers updates and alerts regarding DHSB PTFA events and news straight to your device. On downloading the app, you will be prompted to accept Push Notifications. These notifications are only sent prior to an event or when an update is made.
Yasin said, “DHSB is the first and only school in the UK to have a dedicated iOS application for its PTFA. I would hugely appreciate feedback, which can be submitted from within the app, in taking the app further than these basic features.”
