Our Excellent Work this week features stories written by Year 9 English students.
Sharing examples of excellence is a regular feature of the Head’s Blog and we always receive very positive feedback from our readers.
A big thank you to staff who take the time to showcase their students’ work each week.

Mrs Webb has shared these two short stories this week.
She said, “Year 9 students have been working on crafting short stories with a link to magical realism. They have been reading a range of experimental short stories for inspiration and to challenge their own writing styles. These pieces of work showcase how the students have drawn on inspiration from their reading. The students have considered ambitious vocabulary choices and worked hard to craft language techniques to make the imagery vivid and draw in their reader”.
The Five Memories of an Auk
In the first memory, the predators came. We thought about their actions in the same way we thought about nothing. They came; they took, and they left. They came for the whales and the sea-dwellers before returning to their floating hump of tree branches. They bore many characteristics and opposed their prey with many tools. Some looked like huge spider webs that once reigned in could imprison dozens of fish at a time. Others appeared as handheld twigs that could harness the power of fire. Whatever they wielded caused death but fortunately none of ours.

Ages
In the First Age… we discovered electricity. The brilliance of it amazed even the best of inventors and became a gateway to something far beyond what we could ever imagine. There seemed to be infinite unknown possibilities and electricity was the common denominator for all future inventions to come. We continued to advance and improve our tech, unknowing to the severe consequences and danger of it.

Marlborough Primary School
Pupils from Marlborough Primary School visited us on Monday for a special Science lesson.
22 Year 6 pupils enjoyed the lesson and had the opportunity to use scientific equipment in a laboratory setting.
Our visitors investigated the chemistry of fireworks and following this, burned methane bubbles in Mr Spencer's hands, much to their delight!

Sparx Maths and Sparx Reader
Each week we celebrate our highest performers in both Sparx Maths and Sparx Reader, two of our core homework platforms. We are proud of all of our students who complete their homework each week to such a high standard but these students deserve a special mention.
Congratulations!
