Devonport High School for Boys is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced catering professional to work in our catering team creating fresh, exciting, nutritious dishes cooked from scratch. We are looking for someone who can bring creativity, imagination, enthusiasm and a real passion for food to serve an innovative, healthy and well-balanced menu to our students.
For the right person this is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the eating experience of our students. The catering facilities at the school are excellent and you will work with our Executive Chef to design and deliver new menus, introduce new dishes and food concepts and make a real difference to the eating experience of our students.
The school works with the amazing charity Chefs in Schools (https://chefsinschools.org.uk) who are transforming school food through their work. Chefs in Schools will provide training regarding working with the School Food Plan to get you up to speed, so previous experience of working in an education environment is not essential.
Main duties will include daily supervision of the catering team and operation of the kitchen, preparation of meals from scratch, serving our customers at the service counter and menu planning in collaboration with the Executive Chef. The role will also involve cleaning the kitchen area and equipment as well as operating tills if required. In the absence of the Executive Chef the role will include the ordering of supplies. The ideal candidate must be able to multitask effectively, be able to work under pressure and be a team player.
This job is Monday to Friday 07:00-15:00, term time only + one additional week (39 weeks per year) so perfect if you like to keep your evenings and weekends free. A Local Government Pension Scheme is available with this position.
Informal visits are welcomed and potential candidates should contact John McConnell, Estate Manager by emailing: john.mcconnell@dhsb.org if you wish to arrange this.
If you have dedication, drive and a real enthusiasm for food cooked from scratch we would like to hear from you.
